What Causes Tastelessness After Medication For Thrush On The Tongue?

I was sick about a month ago that lasted for 3 wks with runny nose, sore throat and sinus drainage. Urgent Care prescribed antibiotics & decongestant which made me feel a lot better but after 3 days I developed thrush on my tongue. They then prescribed a mouth wash which after about a week my tongue felt a lot better but now my tongue is I'm not sure how to describe but tasteless seems to fit. When I chew gum or have a peppermint or cough drop is the only time it feels ok. What can it be?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and will try my level best to resolve it..

As per your complain it looks like due to oral thrush there has been inflammation over the dorsum of tongue and there is a possibility that it has caused inflammation of the tongue papillae that contains taste buds leading to alteration in taste..

It will however get better gradually as the inflammation and infection will subside..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated to check whether you still have inflammation of tongue or is the thrush still present.
Treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you should do warm saline gargles, do soda bicarb gargles and chew flavoured sugarfree chewing gums..
Drink plenty of water to prevent dryness in mouth.
Take multivitamin supplements..

Hope this information helps..

Regards.
