What Causes Temporary Blindness In Left Eye After Waking Up?

I woke up this morning and was temporarily totally blind in my left eye. I went from being totally blind in my left eye to double vision in that eye to it being blurry and finally normal. My blood pressure was elevated and I had a bad headache. What could have caused this?

Hello,

Temporary blindness of the eyes are commonly due to high blood pressure, excessive smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, substance abuse, migraine, retinal detachment, closed angle glaucoma, etc that causes the narrowing and spasms of the blood vessels leading to the eyes. Stay away from addictions if any. If diabetic, control your blood glucose levels at all cost. If you have high cholesterol levels, you should get regular routine cardiac function tests done.

Since you experienced blindness and blurriness, you are suggested to get clinically examined by an eye specialist to detect any retinal detachment, corneal scarring, cataract, closed angle glaucoma, etc. Conservative treatment is given to improve any nutritional deficiency, surgery may be recommended if needed. You are suggested to take breaks while working on PC or laptops. Your ophthalmologist may give you glasses or contact lens for better vision if required.

You can increase the size of the text on your laptop or computer. You can use a magnifying glass to strain your eyes less. Stay well hydrated and take food good for the eyes like spinach, kale, green leafy vegetables, eggs, nuts, beans, oranges. Take food rich in vitamin E, A ,C, etc. Give rest to your eyes and do eye exercises under a physical therapist. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
