What Causes Tender Knot On The Lower Left Region Of The Skull?

I woke up yesterday with a tender knot on the lower left region of my skull. It was as sore as if I had been hit in the head with something. Today approximately 1/2-1 inch above that area of painfulness I note a red, raised bite-like area that is slightly tender and occasionally itchy. Should I be concerned or doing anything to treat this? I was white water-rafting the day prior to waking with the initial painful area and remember a horse fly landing on the back of my head. I m wondering if this is related.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The knot you have at the base of your skull seems to be secondary to horse bite injury being infected.

You need a proper cleaning of the injury followed by antibiotic &antibiotic course to treat the infection of bite injury.

Once the infection is controlled, the symptoms of lymph node inflammation would be automatically controlled. Please consult a physician q physician for specific advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
