What Causes Tender Swelling Near Incision Site For Appendectomy?

Hi, I had open appendectomy 10 days ago. Now for last 5 days I have tender swelling beneath the incision site which extends 3cm above. Also the incision is not smooth and feels lumpy n tender. Slight redness but no fever, tachycardia. Bowel habits normal. Slight fatigue. What could be it? Is it an infection?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms of tender swelling beneath the incision site along with lumpy and irregular incision site seems to be due to infection in the area leading to inflammation..
I would suggest you to consult your treating surgeon and get evaluated and in case of infection he will advise you to take antibiotics like Amoxicillin and Metronidazole,, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and topical application of antibiotic and steroid ointment..
As it is just ten days that you have got the surgery done, the wound might have not healed completely and there is a possibility that that if there is infection it can spread deeper in the tissues therefore you should take an immediate treatment to prevent complications..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
