What Causes Tenderness Above The Knee After Taking Clindamycin?

My husband starting taking clindamycin on Thurs afternoon - has taken 4-5 pills. It was prescribed for a bacterial infection in his hand. Now he is experiencing tenderness and burning above his knee. I saw that joint pain is a side effect. Is this a serious issue?
