What Causes Tenderness And Swelling In Armpit?

I just had a mammogram two weeks ago and due to dense breast I was asked to have an ultrasound which I did yesterday and it was normal. I still feel the tenderness on my armpit and it s swollen. I have gone through this for years every month tight before my menstrual cycle. But my cycle has been very irregular and I m taking progesterone right now. I m still worried, should I? There is a history of breast cancer Me too :) mom

Hi,
I understand your concern.
Breast tissue enters axillary region normally ( Tail of breast) . Similarly- in many woman premenstrual breast tenderness/ mass is common- which is mostly due to hormonal imbalance (& same must be the cause of your menstrual irregularity). In your case it's only swelling of the tail of breast. It typically troubles before periods-
You have been correctly given progesteron ,which will resolve your problem.
You should not be scared/worried .Though to be on guard/ have regular self examinations/ periodic doctor's consultations is desirable to keep the disease away/ early diagnosis/ prompt treatment if at all it affects you.-
