Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tenderness And Tight Sensation Below The Navel?
I have an abdominal hernia, but the opening is large, so my doctor hasn t been too worried about strangulation. But about an hour ago, I had tenderness, cramping, and tightness on and below my belly button, and belching. After a bowel movement, it seems a little better. Do I need to be concerned tonight?
Symptoms like the ones you've described can indeed be caused by partial intestinal obstruction. Even the bowel movement may occur sometimes.
Obviously nobody can get a diagnosis without clinical examination but an improvement is against strangulation.
If you develop more symptoms like nausea and vomiting or worsening in your current symptoms then more concerns will be raised.
In any case abdominal symptoms that last for more than a few hours always require medical investigation. Therefore if the symptoms do not wear off after a while, you'd better visit a doctor for proper assessment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Panagiotis Zografakis, Internal Medicine Specialist
