What Causes Tenderness Behind The Ear After A Bout Of Cold?

I started a cold last about 8 days ago, it seemed to go away and the only thing left was a cough but last Wednesday I started feeling a sensitivity on the back of my head (right side). I had shingles about 7 years ago and thought it would be again, went to Urgent Care and they could not find anything by looking at the skin. It has been almost 8 days now and no blisters or anything else have appear but I still feel the tenderness. What could it be?

Hello

You may have developed a condition called mastoiditis , which is infection of the bone behind the ear and generally follows a cold/ear infection. It is unlikely to be shingles as so many days have already passed. Please meet your ent doctor , who will examine you and confirm this , and guide you further.

Thanks
