What Causes Tenderness In Throat And Esophagus Following Cold?

I have had a cold/allergy for over a week. Took mega doses of Vit. C, inhaled Astilin, used husbands cough syrup etc. Now my tongue is covered in white and tender as well as my throat and esophigas. My esophigas, tongue and where the esophigas empties into the stomach burns. Clinic doctor said she didn t think it was thrush. What is going on. Am now on prescribed Cepro, claritin and musinix D.

Hi,

This is most probably suggestive of gastritis with GERD.
- This needs a PPI like Omeprazole to reduce acidity
- Antacid to neutralise gastric acid
- Domperidone as motility regulator
- Changes in diet to avoid oily, spicy foods

As for the white coating of tongue and burning sensation, it is better to have Povidone Iodine oral rinse and gargles.
- Get investigated for dengue, typhoid and as advised
- Apply oral anti-fungal preparation
Consult your doctor again to have tests of throat and tongue swab so that a proper diagnosis can be done and treated as per the cause found.
