What Causes Terrible Nose Bleeds During Cold And Dry Weather?

I have really terrible nose bleeds during cold/dry weather. About half an hour ago I had a really bad nose bleed, and I had very little toiler paper to deal with it, so I mostly bled over a sink. I timed the nose bleed because if it lasts more than half an hour I was going to go to the ER. It lasted 14 minutes. I kept getting a lot of pressure in my nose and then a giant chunk of what looked like gelatinous blood would come out. It really freaked me out because it happened about five times before I finally stopped bleeding. How do I stop these nose bleeds, and should I be worried about the chunks of blood?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for your question. You should not worry about the chunks but you need to use nasal saline to keep your nose moisturized during the cold and dry weather. This can be purchased at the pharmacy and you can use it several times during the day and at bedtime to keep your nose from drying out. If the problem persists you need to check with a doctor. Thanks for using HCM
