What Causes Terrible Taste In The Mouth After Taking Dilantin?

I man 59, male, reasonably good health, about 12 lbs overweight but active. I have what is referred to as a well controlled seizure disorder and I take 400 mg Dilantin daily, for over 20 years. Seizure free. last few days I have had a terrible taste in mouth. No other symptoms. No swelling, no nausea, no other symptoms.

As per your complain bad taste in mouth can occur due to a number of reasons and side effects of medication is one of the common cause for bad taste in mouth..
Other causes can be oral and tooth related or dental infections, post nasal drip, sinus infections, diabetes etc..

For a correct diagnosis and planning of appropriate treatment you need to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per suspected cause can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

-As of now you can start taking supportive treatment like gargling with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash..
-Chew flavoured sugarfree chewing gum.
-Do warm saline gargles.
-Limit intake of high aroma foods like Onion and garlic as they can exaggerate bad smell..
-Drink plenty of water..
