What Causes The Feeling Of Medicine Stuck In The Throat?

Hi. Four days ago I took a vitamin supplement. It was a large pill and I immediately felt like it became stuck. I drank more water and had a small piece of bread. The pill still feels like it is there and every once in awhile moves around. I have been able to eat and drink. I have experienced no gagging or difficulty in breathing. It is just so annoying!! What can I do? Thanks.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of feeling of medicine stuck in the throat which could be due to gastroesophageal reflux disease, strep throat and could be esophageal web. Sometimes medicine cause friction in throat and cause inflammation which appear as something stuck in throat. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for endoscopy as well. You should start treatment after proper prescription from doctor.

- Take diet rich in soft food.
- Drink plenty of water and liquids.
- Do warm saline gargles.
- Avoid intake of sharp and spicy food.
- Do Not lay down immediately after having food.

You should take combination of antacids along with antibiotics. Doctor may refer you to gastroenterologist, who may prescribe h2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
