Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently changed careers and became a professional truck driver. Only in the last month, I have experienced frequent urge/need to urinate. It suddenly becomes an emergency and has caused me to urinate a little in my pants if I cannot get to a bathroom soon enough. What kind of tests/questions should I be asking?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Frequent urge to urinate could be due to two possibilities: 1. Cystitis - infection of urinary bladder. 2. Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). To know weather urinary bladder has infection or not, kindly get an Ultrasound abdomen done along with urine culture and sensitivity test. If the result is indicative of infection, you need to consult Urologist for appropriate management. For Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, you need a Trans-rectal ultrasound scan followed by clinical confirmation by the Surgeon. According to the status, it could be managed conservatively by medications of might need surgery. Hope the information provided would be helpful. Wish you all the best.
