What Causes The Presence Of RBC And WBC In Urine?

I just found out I have red blood cells and white blood cells in my urine -- I am rather panicked and need some calming down. I apparently have no infection -- did have a uti but it cleared up. What could this indicate? I will be consulting a urologist after I see my internal medicine fellow on Friday. Thank you.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Most common cause of presence of RBCs & WBCs in urine is urinary tract infection. However s a very few amount of red blood cells and white blood cells in urine (2-5/ HPF) may be considered normal & harmless.
Other common cause of presence of RBCs & WBCs in urine is Trauma to urinary tract in patients are suffering from kidney stones or have been placed on catheters etc. In this case mostly RBCs are high & WBCs are few & RBCs in urine automatically disappear after the trauma is removed and the wound has healed.
In some problems such as bladder infection like Interstitial Cystitis in women can also lead to increased WBC count in the urine.

There is nothing to worry. You should increase the amont of water consumed. Consult a Urologist for diagnosis & treatment plan

Hope this information helps
