Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just came from the doctor because the UTI I've had since 2 weeks ago did not respond to Macrobid (sp) that I had been subscribed. The doctor put me on Cipro this time. He said that my urine culture from last time showed I had nitrates in my urine but I could not understand what that meant. Can you help me to understand this? NEVER MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A positive nitrite test indicates that the cause of the UTI is a gram negative bacteria, most commonly Escherichia coli, which converts endogenous nitrates to nitrites.
I hope I was clear. If so, Please rate vote my answer as helpfull.
