What Causes The Sensation Of A Blocked Ear?
I am 50 yrs old weight 140 pds and 5 8 tall. I been having a problem with right ear (never in left) to where it feel like at times as if there is a pc of cotton in ear or a feeling of muffled sound especially when walking for a long distance or excercise or just at random but when I tilt my head down or to the right side it opens up then when I set back up it closes back off this has been going on and off about (but more frequent these last 4 weeks) 3 yrs. For the past about 4 months have developed headaches on this right side of head, pain in neck and jaw and nausea with no relieve to pain medicine only sleep seems to relieve pain. Then all of a sudden this morning there was a loud noise of bubbling sounds right ear and severe pain. I went to my ENT and he was not sure as to what is going on a hearing test was done and it was some better than last one in 1999 does all this syptoms come with TMJ? Can you make any suggestions as to I am is going on as to I am unsure to what to do. Thanks for your time! Annette

Hello,
You may be suffering from right ear block may be due to eustachian tube block or middle ear infection or allergy. This eustachian tube block may lead to negative pressure build up in ear which may extract fluid from middle ear vascular lead to glu ear. If it is get inflected lead to ASOM or csom etc.
Again it may cause balance problems. So use tablet amoxicillin with clavulinic acid 625mg twice a day for five days. Use otrivin nasal spray to clear the block. Drink hot water and avoid cool drinks and freeze water. If no improvement please consult with your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
