What Causes The Skin Around The Fingers To Harden And Crack?

my fingers are getting hardened and cracked skin around the nails and on my knuckles from working in the cold and going back into the dry heat of my taxi. i wear gloves and been using working hands . but i feel i have to keep bandaids on them to avoid having to keep reapplying the cream. when the cracks heal how should i remove the dead skin so i can resoften it?

Hi,

I have gone through your question carefully and understood your concerns.

Usually, I advise my patients to :
- soak the hands in warm water
- apply the cream and wrap the fingers overnight
- can use pumice stone to remove the hard skin the next morning before applying the softening cream all day

Applying vinegar pads overnight has shown effective in some of my patients. You can try it too.
