What Causes The Tongue To Become Extremely Dry Along With A Burning Sensation?

My tongue feels very dry with a slightly " burning" sensation. No bumps or discoloration but increased thirst because it feels so dry. Have been using Biotene mouthwash & lozenges. Started about 2 weeks ago. Have been on a 40 mg tab of Furosemide daily for about 3 years. I also have RA well managed with a 200 mg Cimzia injection every 2 weeks & seven 2.5 mg of Methotrexate once weekly. I have been on this regemine for about 2 years. This extremely dry tongue is very bothersome. What might be causing this? Thank you.

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it looks like dry tongue along with burning sensation of tongue is pointing towards Xerostomia leading to Burning Mouth Syndrome..

It can occur due to causes like Severe dehydration, side effects of medications if you take any, salivary gland dysfunction, nerve damage supplying salivary glands, oral infections like thrush, Sjogren's Syndrome, diabetes etc..

You need to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

-For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialised mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients
like Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..
-For burning sensation gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine and suck ice pops..

Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.
