What Causes The Urge To Cough Severely After Taking Food?
I have had bronchitus for 4 weeks and for the last week I have had laryngitus. I have a constant urge to cough but hold it back. My upper right chest feels raw at all times but not tight. I have the strongest coughing urge mostly after eating food, drinking or attempting to speak. Taking a deep breath will also start the cough. The panic of feeling that I have trouble breathing recedes after about 30 minutes after eating. I have not had a fever or cold sympoms however the week that this started I flew and had significant nasal drainage. I am a 61 year old male avid mountain biker. I did have food and drink stuck going down for the last few months and started weight watchers to lose weight(183 pounds, 5 7 ) I have seen my internist over the last weeks and have an appointment Monday. I have been taking inhalers, antibiotics, steroids, and cough medicine with hydrocodone. Original wheezing that I had has subsided but that is the only real change. Not speaking for 6 days at least keeps the soreness of the laryngitis in check.
I think you are having GORD, that is reflux of gastric acid to larynx, leading to laryngitis, soreness in chest and coughing. Taking pantoprazole with levosulpride twice a day 30 min before breakfast and dinner, avoid tea, coffee and sleep 2 hr aftermeals. Steam inhalation will also help. Weight reduction is prime concern
