What Causes Thick Brown Discharge During Periods?

I went on the pill 1 month ago but was also on antibiotics for the first week of being on the pill. My period normally lasts around 4-5 days. Around a week and a half ago i forgot to take my pill and had unprotected sex, however i got my period a few days later. I have now been on my period for a week and have been getting thick brown discharge as well as blood throughout my period. What does this mean?

Hi,
When hormone contraception is initiated, additional protection is needed during the first two months. Also, when there is an infection and antibiotics are used for treatment, the efficacy of the pills is reduced and this calls for additional protection. Added to these two situations, you also missed the pill. If you did not make up for it, you could have hormonal imbalance. Now that you have a prolonged period, it appears as if you have landed up with hormone disturbance. You need investigation, clinical evaluation to help you further. Take care.
