What Causes Thick White Vaginal Discharge While On Folic Acid And Metformin?
Hi! I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome last August 2015, my OB prescribed me on pills and metformin for 3 months. I was not able to come back to her so I continued it for another 3 months. Then after that I still continued the metformin twice daily and folic acid 5mg once. I was a bit anxious as I can always see a thick white secretion on my vagina, is it because of the metformin? Because I cannot distinguish my cervical mucus anymore because its always the whitish thick secretion i am seeing. And along with that can the sperm travel to my cervix even though I have that thick secretions? Hoping for a quick response thanks!

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
HI Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through you query. Your problem can be most likely due to yeast infection. A swab test will be helpful to confirm this. Using anti fungal agents like Miconazole (monistat) for local application will be helpful for this. This is available as over the counter. Using intimate wash daily is also good. This will help to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and PH also.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
