What Causes Thickening Of Endometrium?

After the ultra sound results came out my doctor told me that it shows slightly thickened endometrium. I have not had my period for 2 months. I have been very regular before. I am 42 yrs. I just want to know what it means...a little explanation.... Thanks,...hope you will help.
