What Causes Throat Discomfort And Loss Of Vocal Tone?

I am a singer and have realised that after a recent illness I have lost some range in my vocal tone. I also noted about a week ago that I felt like my throat was locking slightly when I yawned. I m afraid of vocal paralysis or something similar. Any advice?

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query throat discomfort and loss of vocal tone is because of infection of throat which is causing infection and that infection travel down the respiratory track and larynx got infected . The condition is called laryngitis. I would suggest you to again consult your ENT specialist(ear, nose, throat) for proper examination . Doctor may perform laryngoscopy or biopsy to confirm diagnosis . He/she may prescribe further antibiotic course and stronger antibiotics. For now try to speak less , give your larynx proper rest , take ibuprofen (if not allergic) or paracetamol for pain and swelling and give warm compresses to your neck .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
