What Causes Throat Discomfort While Having Severe Cough?
I ve had a terrible cough for about a week now early on I had a bit of a fever but didn t last long maybe a day or 2 but i haven t had any other symptoms since just this awful cough. I have lost my voice now and when I cough it has this awful smell like i guess how an infection smells i really don t know how to describe it and i m coughing up what feels like pieces of my lung which i m sure that s not what it is ( i hope not anyways haha) but it s just pieces of something. I assume it s phlegm or something i m really not sure i just know it hurts and smells and it s miserable. What could this be?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
By your history and description, we should definitely rule out lung infection (pneumonia) for your symptoms. Pneumonia causes infected sputum production. This infected sputum is discolored, smells and tastes bad. So the thing which is coming out from the lung is mostly infected sputum. So better to consult a pulmonologist and get done a clinical examination of the respiratory system and chest x-ray. If the chest x-ray is showing consolidation patch then it is pneumonia for sure. You may need antibiotics, mucolytic and expectorant drug.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
