What Causes Throat Dryness And Swelling Inspite Of Suffering From Sore Throat?

I have had a sore throat for about a week now, my throat seems to be dry and my tonsils look swollen. Twice now randomly I have started to dry heave after feeling a prickly sensation in my throat, it doesn t stop till I drink water. Should I go see my doctor or just wait it out?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain the symptoms of dryness in throat, swelling and prickly sensation seems to be due to recurring throat infection and can be probably bacterial infection [strep throat].

You should take a short course of antibiotic like Augmentin, painkiller like Diclofenac potassium or Tylenol, do warm saline gargles and suck on throat lozenges.
Do steam inhalations and sip on warm water throughout the day..

In case if the symptoms does not improve in a week consult an ENT expert and get evaluated..

Hope this helps..

Thanks and regards.
