What Causes Throat Dryness On Right Side And Pinching Sensation Leading To Cough?

my throat on right side has a dry area that pinches and is felt going to right ear and sometimes right side of nose causing uncontrollable violent dry coughing. tiny pea size mucus may coughed from throat that is tacky, yellow and taste bad like metal and something else and my voice originally gone for 3 days and now it remains unstable goes out while talking. Seen many doctors all with somewhat different opinion such as it s allergies , it s COPD , it s emphysema , its Thrush it s asthma and the dry pinching causing cough is coming from the lungs. I am not a cougher, in my entire life I ve coughed 5 times, once in basic training (due to all shots I received), other 4 times due to sinus infection and the last sinus infection in Sept I didn t cough. The thrush is now gone but the dry pinching though less violent is still occurring non stop day and night. cough drops, extra polar ice gum, talking, and sometimes swallowing food will set it off. Codeine cough syrup does not suppress the coughing. 6 weeks of this and no answers or solutions. I could lose my job. I feel desperate and hopeless. Going from never coughing to non stop coughing is crazy. I feel no pain except in my stomach muscles from the coughing. My whole life never had lung issues. Had the flu once in 17 years, last cold in the late 1980 s. I never get sick even when I am exposed to it. What happen to me? when I describe the symptoms doctors act like they never heard of it. Most of all I don t believe the dry pinching that I feel in my throat is actually coming from my lungs (maybe I am wrong) that s what the ENT doctor said and it is uncontrolled asthma. I accepted it that day but over the past few days that sensation and coughing I feel in my throat everyday makes me think it is not in the lungs. I need help understanding and know what it might possibly be and most of all how do I communicate the right words to my doctor. I don t know what to do. if it is the lungs causing those symptoms please explain how, what, why. last thing when I cough sometimes I violently cough out and it stops at the fullest exhale and for about 20 seconds I can t breathe in and my head build pressure and lightheaded. that scares me because it feels like I am suffocating and going to pass out.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The violent coughing with dry throat and pinching indicates super infection with bacteria over viral infection. Ideal management is a multiple parameters approach, however following would help you great:
- Culture swab report of the upper respiratory tract for identifying responsible bacteria and its sensitivity to certain antibiotics
- Gargles with salted lukewarm water
- Intake of boiled water to consume
- Avoid aerated drinks, dairy fat, sugary items as candies and else
- Avoid smoking if applicable
- Use face mask wisely

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
