What Causes Throat Pain And Swollen Neck Glands?

The glands in my neck are completely swollen. They have been for the past 4 days. Every time I try to move my neck I am in excruciating pain. Also, swallowing is extremely difficult. I have taken all kinds of flu/cold medicine, throat sprays and losengers. Should I go to the emergency room?

Hello
Thank You for contacting HCM.

Is symptomatic management has not resolved then you need to start antibiotic therapy as in your case the condition is severe so i would recommend you to visit hospital once so that they can give you a shot of antibiotic i/v which will improve the symptoms at the earliest. The you can take oral antibiotics. Meanwhile:
> Take hot water in a cup, add 1 table spoon salt in it. Perform gargles (mouth wash) with it three times a day for at least 3 days. It will give soothing effect.

AVOID:
> Chilled water
> Drinks
> Spicy food
