What Causes Throat Pain Like Pressure On Jaw?

A couple of days back I started to have a little pain when I swallowed and felt like I was getting a soar throat. The pain has increased significantly and my throat is sensitive to the touch where I feel the pain. It almost feels as though there is pressure on my jaw. I had this once before. Any idea what this can be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your concern . The sore throat and pressure on jaw clearly indicating that you are suffering from sinus infection that is sinusitis . Sometimes when sinus infection persist for few weeks the infection spread to throat through post nasal drip that causes sore throat . Moreover inflammation in the sinuses cause pressure and pain in jaw .

I would suggest to to :-

- Do gargles with salt mix with warm water .

- Do saline nasal rinses .

- Take steam twice a day .

- Take ibuprofen (if not allergic) or paracetamol for main and swelling.

Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment .

Doctor may order throat swab test ,blood test , X-ray or CT scan to confirm the diagnosis .

Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (cifixime or penicillin) for at least 10 day along with decongestant and anti inflammatory drugs .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
