What Causes Throat Tightness, Fluttering Feeling In Chest And Soreness Below Collarbone?

I just got done in the Er due to some odd throat tightness when sitting in cars & sometimes standing. Also have a weird fluttery feeling in my chest, and soreness in the upper chest below the collarbone. Nothing was found in blood tests and monitoring, but still concerned because I want to know what may be going on here. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing throat tightness, fluttering feeling and soreness in the chest. Your symptoms are indicative of thoracic outlet syndrome. It is commonly caused by poor posture while sitting, standing or sleeping. Maintain correct posture. Stress and depression triggers it. Weight lifting may also be a cause, avoid strenuous exercise and do not do weight lifting. Injury or repetitive injury to the neck or back may also cause such symptoms.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP / neurologist, get Nerve conduction tests, cervical spine X-rays to rule out a cervical rib (extra rib) or cervical (neck) spine abnormalities, CT, MRI, etc., done to detect TOS. You will be treated accordingly with Physical therapy, pain relieving medications, surgery if needed. To be on the safer side, get cardiac function tests, lipid functions tests, imaging tests done to rule out any developing cardiac problem. You will be accordingly treated. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
