What Causes Throbbing And Redness At The Thumb Where The Staple Has Pierced?
so i grabbed a piece of wood today to do build a countertop and there was a staple sticking out of the end about an inch and i grabbed the wood and the entire staple went into my hand. I pulled it out and it bled for awhile. now hours later my palm where the staple went in is throbbing and red, I think i had my tetanus about 5 years ago, should i be worried?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Amarnath's Response
welcome to hcm, A small piece of wood might have pierced and may be left in that place so it has to be carefully removed you might need a booster dose of tetanus toxoid. clean the wound take out any remaining pice left over in the hand regular dressing of the wound will heal the wound fastly. hope this explains with regards Dr.Amarnath
