What Causes Thumb To Be Sore And Filled With Fluid?

these are not blisters on both my hands, but on both of my hands the thumbs are sore at the base and when you cross them over you can see the swollen as if they were filled with fluid. By the way I forgot to mention I am diabetic. I am 62 yrs old 5'4'' and 234lbs.
