Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a ticklish cough for at least 25 years, it usually comes in the winter and persists into the spring. I have had it again this year. I have never smoked For the first time I have slight hoarseness, beginning in January. There is no sore throat or difficulty in. swallowing. I am 81 and have type 2 diabetes. Apart from the seasonal cough and the hoarseness I feel very fit, with no tiredness and able to do strenuous gardening. I have good appetite and my weight is steady.
Hello As you mentioned in your query that this type of cough comes in the winter from last 25 years i.e. sudden fall of temperature ( lowering of temperature is a big factor) . Fall of temperature develop BRONCHOCONSTRICTION in few persons and this produces wheezing or whistling type of sound in lungs and we can hear during breathing . This is the main cause of cough . This type of cough is known as asthmatic allergic bronchitis . When such type of patient comes to my clinic I advise them to take monteleukast+ bambuterole in combo pack , twice in a day with tepid water . Since this is a prescription medicine so consult a physician and get his opinion. However hot coffee also provide relief. Good luck.
