What Causes Tightening Of Neck Muscles Along With Heart Palpitations?

Sometimes I can feel a tightening or pulling on the front left side of my neck. I have this with no pain just an uncomfortable tug 3 to 4 times a day. I have also been experiencing heart palpitations for which I recently had a stress/echo test. It showed absolutely nothing wrong. I am 53 yrs old and very active I am also in the Navy reserve and going through a very stressful divorce. My Dr advised me to cut down on coffee consumption and get more sleep. Would you suggest a halter moniter at this time? Should I get the arteries in my neck checked out as well? What do you think? Also my blood work was fine. Getting worried.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
if you have had normal stress test than it is very unlikely the palpitations are related to a heart problem. If you are going through a stressful period that stress and anxiety might be a contributing factor for all the symptoms you have. try to have a healthy life style, being active and going for walks and exercising regularly, avoid caffeine and alcohol and make sure you have regular meals and regular sleeping time and if no improvement you might need to see a doctor and consider treatment for anxiety if it is really effecting your daily activities.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question
