What Causes Tightness Around Knee Joints?

my knee joints feel like they have a three inch rubber band around them, and i have to push with my hands to stand up when I have been sitting and I have to pause before setting off. I am finding it more difficult to walk.
Ihave been taking Simvastatin 40mg tablets for a number of years.
could these be the cause.?
