What Causes Tightness In Neck And Throat When Having Hashimoto's Syndrome?

I have been having problems with tightness in my neck and throat. It starts randomly and can last for hours. It causes me to gag. It happens pretty much everyday. I was having stomach problems for about a year, so I went to a primary care physician and a gastroenterologist. I was found to have Hashimoto's syndrome. My gastroenterologist gave me an upper gi endoscopy where all the results came back normal. I just feel very frustrated and do know what else to do because this problem doesn't seem to go away

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease. Sometimes it may be associated with another autoimmune disease like type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or pernicious anemia.

Anti-inflammatory drugs may be helpful to treat pain and if TSH level is high then needs to start levothyroxine accordingly.

Please consult your endocrinologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
