What Causes Tightness In The Left Arm And Chest Area?

I have been having some tightness in my left arm and left side of my chest, also my eyes feel tight ? its been about 5 days? I am 40 yrs old, in great shape I work out 3 to 4 days a week and don't smoke and hardly drink. I also worked out really hard the day before the pain on my chest area of exercise.

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. As you exercised hard prior the day before onset of symptoms it could be muscle strain/pull,costochondritis or could be due to pleural causes like pleurisy [pneumonia/pneumothorax,pulmonary embolism], herpes so any pain/tightness which is severe,persistent should be discussed with your doctor and becomes important when you are middle aged to exclude any heart/lung disease.

2. If emergency causes are excluded, your doctor may refer you to a consultant [chest specialist/Cardiologist] for further investigations like Chest X-ray, Electrokardiogram, D-dimer test,and management will depend upon the cause of chest pain.
