What Causes Tightness In Throat?

I am having this tightness around my throat, my back is also bothering me when I stand up straight, my lower neck muscles seem tight and it bothers me when I look straight forward, and I also have this feeling of shortness of breath even though I can take deep breaths with no problems and it doesn't feel like anythings blocking the air passage. This started when I woke up this morning, it hasn't happened before, and I am a 17 yr. old male

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of tightness in throat which seems to be due to acid reflux, diverticula and bacterial infection. I would suggest you to avoid eating spicy and heavy food specially at night , take light walk after every meal , take antacid after every meal and eat at least one hour before going to sleep. The symptoms can also occur due to condition like tonsillitis. Consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order x-ray of digestive tract , endoscopy of esophagus and ambulatory acidity test . Doctor may prescribe H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitor. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist if he/she find problem to be related with upper respiratory tract infection. For now do warm saline gargles and maintain oral hygiene .
