What Causes Tightness Of The Cervix?

My GYN says my cervix is very very tight. Meaning it was difficult for her to do a D&C (I am constantly on my period). So this time she recommended I be put under anesthesia. First of all, what causes a tight cervix, is there anything I need to do about it (I m single, in my late 40s and don t plan on having children), and lastly I m anxious about being under anesthesia but she says I have a low threshold for pain, so that s another reason to put me under. Do you think this is a good idea?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
A tight cervix is observed in nulliparous women or women who have not bore children.
In parous women the cervix stretches so that the cervix is loose and wide.
A nulliparous cervix is difficult to enter with instruments for any procedure.
Dilatation of cervix with instruments may be painful thus your gynecologist has advised to undergo procedure under anesthesia.
There is very little risk of anesthesia so you can safely undergo the procedure under anesthesia.

Thanks and take care
