What Causes Tingling And Burning Sensation In The Thumb?

I am having extreme skin sensitivity on my hand, a very specific area between the two knuckles on my thumb. It is only on the front surface of the thumb. Feels like pins and needles or a burning sensation, very sensitive to touch. No injury to the area. No redness, swelling, or rash. No limited mobility. Very strange! i am 64 y/o female; no health issues. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Abnormal sensations are most commonly related to the nerves in the area.

Abnormal nerve function can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes.

Some of these causes include: (1)low levels of vitamin b12 or folate
(2)diabetes
(3)kidney or liver disease
(4)side effect of medication
(5)thyroid disease
(6)abnormal levels of vitamin b6
(7)infection
(8)exposure to toxins
(9)trauma eg arthritis

In some cases, the cause is not found. If it continues you would need to be assessed by your doctor.
This would include physical examination and possibly bloods such as diabetes screen, vitamin levels, thyroid screen

I hope this helps
