What Causes Tingling And Numbing Sensation In Face While On Blood Pressure Medications?

hi I have had high blood pressure for a very long time and have only seen a doctor about a month ago I am now on meds and feeling way better. my blood pressure was 205/107 when I went to the doctor. ive been on tablets for about 5 weeks I started on 4mg but a week ago started on 5mg. I have a monitor at home and my blood pressure now on average sits at between 150 to 185 over 98 to 103. I am a 50 year old female, ive just given up smoking. I am still getting a lot of the symptoms from before I started on the tablets (no where near as often) and the one that concerns me most is my face often tingles and feels sort of numb is this something I should be concerned about especially since it only happens a few times a week

Hi,

Tingling and numbness in the face can be a symptom of a variety of conditions. It is important to inform your doctor about any new or worsening symptoms, including those related to your blood pressure medications.

Some blood pressure medications, such as calcium channel blockers, can cause tingling or numbness in the hands, feet, or face. This is a rare side effect but should be discussed with your doctor. Other possible causes of tingling and numbness in the face include nerve damage, migraine headaches, sinus infections, or dental issues.

It is important to have your blood pressure monitored regularly and to follow your doctor's recommendations for lifestyle changes, medication adjustments, and any further testing or evaluations. If you have any concerns about your symptoms, you should discuss them with your doctor to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
