What Causes Tingling And Numbness In Left Arm?

Hi, I have been getting tingling/numbness in arms particularly left arm while lying in bed trying to sleep. I ve moved around all positions to get to sleep but over a small period of time of lying in whichever position my arms start to tingle feel numb and prevents me from sleeping. Was fine during the day yesterday but had woken me a few times the previous night with numb arms.

Hi,

Tingling and numbness in the left arm can be caused by several conditions. Some of the common causes are:
* Pinched Nerve: When a nerve in the neck or shoulder region is pinched or compressed, it can cause tingling and numbness in the arm. This can be due to a herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, or cervical spondylosis.
* Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: This is a condition where the median nerve in the wrist gets compressed due to inflammation, swelling, or other factors. It can cause tingling, numbness, and pain in the hand and fingers.
* Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: This occurs when the blood vessels or nerves in the thoracic outlet (the area between the collarbone and first rib) get compressed. It can cause pain, tingling, and numbness in the arm.
* Poor Posture: Poor posture while sleeping or sitting can put pressure on the nerves in the neck, causing tingling and numbness in the arms.
* Other Causes: Other conditions that can cause tingling and numbness in the arm include diabetes, multiple sclerosis, peripheral artery disease, and stroke.

A doctor may recommend some tests or imaging studies to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. Depending on the cause, treatment options may include physical therapy, medication, or surgery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
