What Causes Tingling And Pain From The Shoulder To The Arm?

A few months ago I was doing laundry and the tip of my index finger on my left arm went numb, it cleared up with in a few hours. about 3 weeks after that my whole arm from my sholder to my hand was full of tingles and was weaker when trying to lift things. It was like that for a few weeks on and off. I went for blood work and I never got a call back so I asume all was fine (The doctor thought it could be my thyroid). That ended up going a way and now for the past 2 weeks my thumb is numb, kinda like mouth freezing stuff they use at the Dentist and when I lift things and reach for stuff it feels like a big fat rubber band stretches and then snaps (not painful but just a odd nasty feeling) we have no specialist in my town and I know it's hard to know forsure what it could be by what I am writing on here but I am looking for some kind of direction on how to handle this and I have a fear that I am going to wake up one day and my whole arm is going to be dead.
