Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been taking dyociclin for a tick bite, and I have tingling on my arms and hands, skin is very hot, feel like I m burning up in the sun, one hand has swollen and is very red and painful on the knuckles, skin is shiny at the knuckles (almost looks like cellulitis) Should I stop taking the antibiotic? And, will I return to normal (no tingling, swelling, redness, hot skin) after I stop?
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Your symptoms may be some reaction to the tick bite or an associated soft tissue infection like cellulitis or erysipela or an infected bite site if the swelling is around the bite sight.Tick bites are however supposed to be well managed so as to prevent tick born infections like Lyme disease. In most cases, just cleaning the site will do and medications may only be prescribed if symptoms.I will suggest you see your Doctor for evaluation. In the meantime, since you started your antibiotics already and what we are dealing with now might be of infectious origin, i will suggest you continue with the drug till you see your Doctor for evaluation. You may add a pain/anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen and try ice pack placement if pain intense. Hope this will help Regards
