What Causes Tingling, Purplish Colour With Numbness In Hands?

If I place my hands in my lap or wake up during the night with my hands above my head - my arms are tingling, hands turn purple and lately my hands are going numb. If this happends, my arms are sore for a while and lack of strength. Can you please help me?
