What Causes Tingling Sensation And Numbness In The Left Side Of The Face?

My 19 year old daughter experienced tingling and numbness on the left side of her face several days ago and had to pull over to the side of the road because it was significant. Then tonight she said her hands had gone numb and were then tingling? What is the possible reasons for this?

Hi Dear,

As per your query your daughter have tingling sensation and numbness in the left side of the face which is mainly due to injury to facial nerve which supplies the whole face area and due to nerve impingement or pressure on facial nerve which can lead to facial paralysis or bell's palsy.

Need not to worry about it. I would suggest you to visit oral surgeon once and get it examined to rule out nerve compression, neuralgia or other conditions like neuropathy. Oral surgeon may recommend you to neurologist as well if it is related to some other cause.

Go for physical therapy of facial muscles.

Avoid opening mouth extreme wide while jawing.

Physician may prescribe OPG, neurotropic medication such as nerve supplement , methylcobalamin is effective to improve your symptoms.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
