I wake most mornings with pins and needles in both hands. I do tend to sleep with a hand up under the pillow beneath my head - would this be the cause? I have slept like this most of my life but only in the last year or so have had this feeling in my hands....
I have read your query and according to what you have mentioned keeping the hand below your head will cause decreased supply to the extremity of hand or pressure on sensory nerves leading to numbness of that part. But as soon as the pressure is removed the blood supply and nerve function is restored leading to initial pins and needles sensation which will go off within a few seconds. Appropriate posture of sleep will help you avoid this discomfort.
However,if you are having a chronic feeling of pins and needles sensation it requires accurate diagnosis to rule out causes like hypothyroidism, diabetes, compression of nerve by bone.In that case, I suggest you to take an opinion of a physician if symptoms are chronic and long lasting.
Hope this answers your query.
