What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Feet And Shoulder?

I was diagnosed with a possible TIA; however, my MRI, chest ex-rays and all the test I have come up negative. I continue to have a tingling sensation in my foot and some tingling and numbness in my left shoulder. When I go to bed at night it feels like there is a slight pull on the muscles of the left side of my chest. There is no pain, but the symptoms interrupt my sleep. I am scheduled to go to a spine clinic next month. Any thoughts? My email address is: YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Tingling of the feet can occur for different reasons. It can be related to the nerves or blood supply to the feet. In terms of the blood supply, if there are any problems with the circulation, it can cause tingling. This can occur in persons with high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smokers, physical inactivity, overweight. In terms of the nerves-
(1) Diabetes
(2) Trauma to the nerves
(3) Vitamin deficiency- vitamin B1, E, B12
(4) Alcohol use
(5) Kidney and liver disease
(6) Thyroid disease
(7) Exposure to toxic agents.

If you have a history of diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, then one of these may be the cause. If it is very disturbing, your doctor can determine the cause with physical examination and your medical history. The treatment would depend on the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
