What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Hand After An Injury?

During the last year I have fallen about 10 times - not dizzy just fall. I get pain in my lower back on left side. My hands are tingly all the time. At times my right knee ( sometimes both) shakes. I have a shuffling gait and it is getting worse. Started using a walker within last 2 weeks. My blood sodium dropped to 129 and is now back up to 135. Being seen at the VA Outpatient Clinic.

Hello,

Sorry to hear about the falls and the injuries caused due to it. The tingling in the hand will be related to the nerve root entrapment in the cervical region and this is not needed to be associated with falls but also can be due to posture, job profile, degenerative changes etc.

Having an MRI should be good to understand cervical curvature. Usually it's lordotic but in case of any deviation it needs attention.

Using neck collar initially should reduce the symptoms. Post which the exercise to strengthen the muscles of the neck and upper limbs should be done to avoid the injury to progress.

Prevention is better than cure. For lower back region you need to take MRI for the same to understand the extent of deviation in of the lumbar spine.

Any changes may lead to constantly have recurrence of back pains. Using lumbar spine brace and exercise for lower back and lower limb strengthening should avoid the injury to prolong further.

Please monitor your blood pressure and blood glucose levels along with sodium levels to understand the pathologies associated with it.

Taking up the physiotherapy session for gait training will be of utmost benefit.

In my clinical practice of over 12 years, most cases coming with cervical later complain of lumbar pain due to lack of exercise and muscle weakness.

With Physiotherapy guided exercises they have given good outcome scores.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
