What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Hands And Feet?

I m a 46 yr old female. Have had headaches for the past yr. Also have recently experienced tingling in my hands and feet. Dr thought my headaches may be caused by the Epstein Barr Virus since I tested positive for it. My Vit D level is 9. What s your assessment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Your tingling sensation could be due to vitamin D deficiency ad you have 9 ng/ml
It should be greater than 30-100 ng/ml.
Sometime Vitamin D also cause headache.
Other cause could be inadequate blood supply and Vitamin B12 deficiency.
I would suggest to consult the internal medicine specialist and undergo vitamin B12 test and detailed examination.
Doctor will give following advises for
Vitamin D deficiency:
You should take 50,000 IU/week for 8 week.
You can also take stoss therapy: 3-6 lakh units over 1-5 days
keep the serum levels of 25(OH)D >30 ng/dL which is considered to be the optimal level.

Exposure to sunlight for 2 hour / week with open hand , forearm and face, feet between 10 am to 12 noon

Take Dietary and supplemental sources of vitamin D:
Oily fish such as salmon, cod liver oil, and liver and organ meats
Fortified milk.

Do regular exercise, drink plenty of water and take healthy diet
Hope this may help you

Contact further if follow up needed
Best regards
