Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently taking potassium prescription due to low potassium in blood. Since taking I have developed tingling sensations in my left arm only. It comes and goes with movement, e.g. leaning forward or leaning head back, sometimes when walking or carrying something in that arm. I assumed this was due to pinched nerve, but wanted to make sure this is not a side effect of too much potassium.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, pinched nerve as you called is a more possible cause than potassium as low potassium not high can cause. such tingling but that has to.be generalized and not in one arm only. X-ray spine and neurosurgical evaluation is needed to rule out cervical spondylosis.
OTC analgesics like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used. Using nerve pain suppressants like Gabapentin may be needed if pain persists. Supplements for calcium, vitamin D3 and B12 and folic acid may also help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
